District Secretary for Administration and Compliance

Do you have the skill, experience and vision to lead in building and maintaining good practice for a newly amalgamated District of the Methodist Church?  We are a collaborative, justice-seeking family of churches, looking for a skilled senior administrator.
lf so, this post may be for you. 

This is a senior leadership position in a merged organisation.

1. Collaboration with the District Chair and the District Secretary for Ministries & Vocations in the leadership of the District, and promoting the values of the District in all work practice.
2. Collaboration with the Mission Area Leads to facilitate support of the circuits in relation to the responsibilities of administration and compliance issues.
3. Responsibility for compliance with all relevant legal, financial, and governance matters, including compliance with the relevant parts of The Constitutional Practice and Disicipline of the Methodist Church, including:
   1. budget and accounting, in partnership with the District Treasurer;
   2. data protection;
   3. lay employment processes;
   4. safeguarding.
4. Working with the District Safeguarding Officers, the District Safeguarding Group and others to ensure safeguarding processes for the District are robust and effective.
5. Responsibility, together with relevant District officers and bodies, for strategy for property and finance across the District, and for its implementation.
6. Enabling the District Property Consents group to fulfil their responsibilities regarding property matters within the District.
7. Coordinating the District Grants Policy and its implementation through the District Grants Committee.
8. Ensuring that the District’s responsibilities for Reconciliation and Complaints are fulfilled, including liaising with the other District Leaders and ensuring the appointment and functioning of the District Local Complaints Officer and District Reconciliation and Complaints Support Group(s).
9. Collaboration with the District Chair and others to ensure good practice in internal and external communication, including through the District Communications Officer.
10. Engagement with the District Policy Committee and the District Scrutiny Group processes and meetings.
11. Fostering good and collaborative working relationships with holders of relevant district volunteer posts.
12. Other areas of responsibility as agreed and assigned by the Trustees.

The events will cover the following themes: saving and sharing energy, insulation, solar and batteries, renewable heat, funding energy efficiency measures, creating healthy and mould-free homes etc.

You have experience of organising events or other engagement activities.  You bring a proactive attitude to the role. You are a creative thinker with some great ideas about how to engage communities in the transition to a fossil free future and ensure that no one is left behind.

You are a great advocate and because you believe in community energy are happy to promote our services to other organisations and groups with the aim of increasing the number of residents we can support with energy advice and who are able to engage in the transition to a more sustainable future.

You have a high standard of written and verbal communication skills. You are organised with an attention to detail and respect for the importance of collecting data to enable monitoring and evaluation of the project.  You want to improve the events by collecting and listening to feedback and implementing improvements. You value the input of our service users, volunteers and staff team into the design of the events programme.

Responsibilities

- Work in collaboration with the ESC team and stakeholders to design a programme of inspiring energy and climate themed events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne, and Wealden, reaching a total of 1000 residents across the year.

- Create engagement opportunities for your team at the events and activities of other organisations and local groups by networking and working with the Communications and Marketing person to promote our services.

- Find interesting speakers and organisations to participate in our events.

- Create public events for our No One Left Behind project, finding new, exciting ways to engage the public in conversation about energy and climate topics.

- Manage the administration and logistics of the events, including room bookings, ticket booking processes, etc.

- Look for opportunities to invite our funder along to events and participate in the activities.

- Manage relationships with staff team and volunteer Energy Champions on local events.

- Create event plans and risk assessments for each event.

- Work with the Marketing and Communications Officer and local volunteers to plan PR and promotion of events to agreed timelines.

- Create and work to agreed budgets.

- Ensure you are collecting the data needed to monitor and evaluate the project.

- Create inclusivity in the event registration and attendance experience to support people with a variety of needs.

- Ensure events feed into the wider work and services of Energise Sussex Coast.

- Provide event reports to manager detailing the number of attendees, write-up of the event, and feedback.

- Provide general assistance with ESC events and projects as required.

- Adhere to Energise Sussex Coast’s policies around safeguarding, data protection, etc.

- Attend monthly in-person team meetings in Hastings.

Key Details

• Hours: 30 hours a week, flexible working. Will include some evening and weekend work.
• Job location: Home based (or optional hot desk in Hastings) with regular events in Hastings, Rother, Eastbourne and Wealden. Please note, travel costs to the events will only be paid from a local East Sussex postcode, we would not be able to cover the cost of travelling to events from London or further afield.

1. Professional experience or a personal commitment to the pressing importance of the transition to a sustainable, fossil fuel free future

2. Experience of organising events or community engagement.

3. Experience or an understanding of the importance of quality data collection, monitoring and evaluation, for example collecting and analysing event feedback

4. Effective administration and organisational skills, with good time management and high attention to detail

5.     Good written and verbal communication skills

6. Experience working in a team for shared objectives and self-motivated to work independently.

7. A qualification in a relevant field: events, marketing or climate/ energy

8. Experience of working with volunteers

Working in the People and Culture team and reporting to the Head of People and Culture, the Senior People Partner will be responsible for leading and managing a team, within the remit of employee relations, that delivers a high quality, inclusive, problem-solving, and people-focussed HR service to all levels of management and staff. The Senior People Partner’s role is to manage, supervise and support employee relations, employee wellbeing, and diversity and inclusion initiatives, overseeing the employee life cycle. They will also advise and coach the Talent Acquisition and Volunteer team on volunteer related cases using RMG policies.  

Key responsibilities involve managing a direct caseload of complex employee relations cases, including leading on liaison with ACAS, external investigators, and legal advisors, and preparing for and attending Employment Tribunals. Further core objectives include leading the drafting of new/revisions to people policies, consultation and negotiation with relevant stakeholders, and the communication and embedding of new/revised practices across the workforce. The Senior People Partner will further build and maintain effective working relationships with the senior leadership team, acting as an expert strategic adviser on a range of employee relations matters and as a point of escalation for employee relations enquiries emerging from other teams, actively coaching, supporting, and mentoring colleagues to grow team capability and support development. 

The successful candidate will have proven experience in managing an HR case work portfolio, which includes conducting discipline and grievance investigations, hearings and appeals, and ACAS Early Conciliation and Employment Tribunals, as well as overseeing attendance and performance management processes. Established success in coaching managers and leaders on various HR matters is essential to this role, empowering them to manage risk, resolve conflict, support their team members to excel at work, and foster cohesion and trust within a hybrid workforce. The postholder will have experience and interest in managing employee wellbeing and diversity and inclusion initiatives; be CIPD qualified; have excellent and adaptable organisation, communication and interpersonal skills; and will enjoy working with a variety of people, with a strong ability to listen effectively.

This is a full-time, permanent role in Band 4 – Senior Management and Senior Specialists. Core hours of work will be 36 per week, working 5 days between the hours of 9am-5pm, although due to the nature of the work, some flexibility may be required.

The Estates Repairs & Maintenance Manager will report directly to the Associate Director of Estates working alongside the Estate's Surveyor, Facilities Officer, Estates Administrator and external property consultancy partner who will provide technical support in terms of the production of tender and specifications, contract administration, property surveys, cost advice and feasibility studies.

How you will make a difference

The main purpose of the Estates Repairs & Maintenance Manager role is to manage and oversee effective property repairs, maintenance and improvement works across the property portfolio and ensure that it remains legally compliant. This includes properties where the responsibility for repairs and maintenance is that of the Charity and equally of other parties such as landlords and housing associations. The role will include managing existing external contractor relationships and housing association repairs and maintenance performance, as well as introducing new supplier contracts where required according to the wider needs of the charity. The role will also include managing major/complex projects on behalf of the charity and supporting other areas of the department ensuring properties remain compliant.

As Business Development and Engagement Manager within the Workplace Mental Health & Training team, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth, partnerships, and engagement from corporate and community settings for both Mental Health UK and Rethink Mental Illness. You will work to secure funding from a wide range of sources, including commercial activity, public sector contracts and grant funding, to allow our work to continue and grow.

Working in our National Programmes team, you will ensure that we evaluate, plan for and respond effectively to bids and tenders, lead on the development of proposals, and support service delivery teams in implementing successful tenders/proposals. You will manage a Senior Business Development Officer who supports our work in positioning the organisation to respond to new bids and tenders and, where required, support the implementation of new services.

About the Role: This is an interesting and varied role. As the post holder you'll be not only be setting up, administering and delivering schemes and activities to benefit Barnet’s looked after young people, you'll also be creating marketing materials and supporting fundraising events.  Promoting the work of our charity is key too through updating our website, writing our quarterly newsletter and social media channels, as well as supporting the running and administration of the charity. 

About You:

You'll have experience of managing and delivering projects, schemes or activities and supporting administrative tasks including keeping accurate records, financial tracking and expenditure.
 
You'll also have experience of creating engaging content for newsletters, websites and/or social media channels especially Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram and building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver common goals.

Job Summary

Rethink Mental Illness exists to improve the lives of people severely affected by mental illness. With a general election expected this year, followed by a new government, this is arguably the most crucial window for influencing policy on mental illness in the last decade.

As Senior Public Affairs and Stakeholder Officer, you will play a vital role in helping Rethink Mental Illness bring about policy improvements for people severely affected by mental illness, supporting our influencing and relationship building work with political stakeholders, and aiding our work planning for and influencing a new government.

You will be working closely with colleagues in the wider Policy and Influencing Team, Communications and Campaigns Team, and Chief Executives’ Office. And you will work particularly closely with the Public Affairs and Stakeholder Manager on devising and implementing influencing activity, including writing briefings and submissions for political audiences, developing election content, creativity utilising the All Party Parliamentary Group for Mental Health to create change, and drafting letters and correspondence to external stakeholders.

You will have some experience working in public affairs or politics, including an understanding of parliamentary processes and the political landscape in Westminster. You will be working with a range of internal and external stakeholders and will be able to build relationships and work proactively.

Your areas of work will involve both planned work but also a degree of fluidity with the need to adapt and develop according to priority as circumstances change and opportunities to influence are identified. Existing knowledge of the health sector is not required but would be a bonus.

Person Specification

• Experience working in a public affairs and/or politics. This could be in a public sector, charity, think tank, or agency role, or for an MP.

• Good in-person stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, including when meeting parliamentarians, political staffers and other stakeholders in the sector, such as charity partners.
• Ability to work on creative, external-facing influencing campaigns that may involve working with parliamentarians or the media
• Ability to engage with people who have lived experience of relevant policy areas

About the role

Becoming the Programme Marketing Manager at the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women is a fantastic opportunity to help drive progress for women entrepreneurs in low and middle income countries by engaging more people in our work.

The key purpose of this role is to effectively market our programmes to participants – chiefly our HerVenture business skills microlearning app and our sector-leading Mentoring Women in Business programme.

This will span three main projects:

· to successfully manage a marketing agency to effectively market the HerVenture app to women in South Africa (as part of a fixed-term project with active marketing ongoing until Mar ‘25);

· to successfully manage the same marketing agency to promote the app in Nigeria (as part of a separate fixed-term project with active marketing ongoing until Dec ‘24); and

· to effectively promote the opportunity to become a mentor to a woman entrepreneur through our Mentoring Women in Business programme to paying professionals worldwide. Your objective will be to secure 18+ paid mentors for the Nov ’24 programme intake and 20+ for the May ’25 intake.

Following the completion of the two HerVenture marketing projects, you will also lead other programme marketing initiatives in 2025. These will be determined in late 2024.

Following the May ’25 Mentoring intake you will deliver a strategy, harnessing your learning and analysis to outline an approach for marketing the programme to paying mentors in future.

You will also be called on to support other forms of programme marketing on an ad hoc basis, for example advising on development of corporate pitch decks, or co-designing materials for fundraising events.

This position reports directly to the Head of Communications and Marketing, however this is a highly collaborative role and you will also work closely with the Entrepreneurship programmes team and the Programme Funding team to develop and deliver plans and manage projects.

Our ideal candidate will be a knowledgeable and motivated marketer with experience in ‘selling’ professional development / online volunteering opportunities, and in managing agencies and contractors to deliver on fixed projects as aligned to good marketing practices. You should be highly organised and goals-driven, with a collaborative approach, a growth-oriented mindset, and a strong desire to harness the power of marketing to support women’s economic empowerment.

BACKGROUND 

The Helen Bamber Foundation is a human rights organisation with an international reputation for providing medical consultation, therapeutic care, legal protection, and practical support to survivors of trafficking and torture.  We are a team of therapists, doctors, lawyers, caseworkers and administrators who help men, women and children recover from the emotional and physical damage they have suffered because of torture, human trafficking, or other forms of cruelty.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE 

As  Psychotherapist within the Helen Bamber Foundation, you will work alongside our current Senior Psychotherapist and be responsible for supporting the Head of Therapies and the Team Manager in providing a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions to clients of the Helen Bamber Foundation.

In addition to providing psychotherapy, stabilization, psychoeducation, and trauma focused therapy, this role will include delivery of psychological assessments for both medico-legal and clinical purposes, as well as delivery of clinical supervision to staff from non-clinical backgrounds who nonetheless have significant client contact, and supervision of assistant psychologists. As you develop in the role you will also have opportunities to contribute to the on-going development of the service and at times, the role may include input into policy, research and fundraising and delivery of consultancy and training. 

We are looking for someone who is committed to working therapeutically with individuals who have experienced human rights abuses and who have developed trauma spectrum disorders as a result. The successful applicant will ideally have proven experience in working therapeutically with this client group, have a passion for human rights work beyond the individual client work, and a desire to contribute to effecting change at a policy level.  This role requires the ability to be with the complex and sometimes harrowing details of a client’s experience, and to react and respond creatively and appropriately to their needs.Additionally, you will be knowledgeable and experienced in consultation and assessment including risk management, and have competence, or a commitment to receiving training, in at least one model of trauma therapy such as NET or EMDR.
